At the edge of Laval, Quebec sat the picturesque St. Marys Convent, or as the French would say, St. Marie.
A convent can be a dark and dreary place, a warm and cheery place, or a place filled with hope, charity, and most of all, love. Especially to a novice seeking peace.
Angelina Hebert, (not “Sister Angelina” and not truly even a novice yet, and certainly not up to even making preliminary vows), found the place as such. That Mother Superior took her in, and let her find refuge from the sins of the world. It just made the place seem that much more of a temptation, that many girls wanted to spend their lives there, for those really inclined to a religious vocation, while the peace and security that attracted her now, easily weeded out those to whom a quiet life of prayer, fasting, and abstinence would drive them crazy.
