Sorry, I belong to one of the minorities “insulted” in this video and I don’t see anything wrong with any of the caricatures. Every group should be fair game for satire.
The King Louie bitching is the lamest: it was voiced by Louie Prima, a white guy of Italian descent.
Not one of these depictions is insulting in the least. In fact, most of them are getting the laugh on the protagonist (Siamese Cats, Dumbo’s Crows, etc.)
I also fail to see what’s wrong with SOTS portraying reality, no matter how much it hurts some SJW’s feelings, it happened. Live with it.
This is a pretty benign vision of post-bellum South and it portrays African slave narratives- what other Disney film does that with any culture’s handed down stories? Not a one.
Everyone should be glad it exists to preserve those stories for future generations. What the video seems to be saying is any portrayal (see Aristocats) of an ethnic group is insulting, so why isn’t pocahontus, mulan and princess and the frog (3 of the most unsuccessful Disney films, btw, arguably conceived just to pander to those groups) racist as well?
Personally, I find Moana more insulting than any of these films because they were too innocent and well-meaning to pander, as all the modern Disney ‘ethnic’ films do now. Each culture must be presented as the greatest culture ever, even if the members were backward, savage or ignorant.
I congratulate Disney on some very sensitive and worthwhile portrayals in these old films, which accurately show various cultures music, humor and slang, something none of the post-Little Mermaid animations has done.
