.., 33% Hillary, 0% McCain supporters found
The comments are the hilarious part of this piece by ABC news hack Martha Raddatz: Surprising Political Endorsements By U.S. Troops in which she searches throughout Iraq and finds 2 Obama backers, 1 Hillary supporter, and one guy who says he likes the Republicans because they have been paying his paycheck, and that’s likely to continue, being the warmongers they are, so he wouldn’t be against them continuing.
Though the military is generally a more conservative group, soldiers like Sgt. Justin Sarbaum are just as eager for a pull-out as the Democratic candidates. Sarbaum said he wondered which presidential candidate would be able to better the U.S. relationship with rogue nations, such as Iran, so that soldiers are not sent off to another war.
“Iran is obviously a big issue,” Sarbaum said, “Here in Iraq for my third time; starting another war right now — is it really necessary?”
Sgt. Cory Messingham from Lewisville, Texas, said he wasn’t following the race, but he was concerned about candidates’ paying attention to the emotional toll that the war has taken on soldiers.
“My biggest issue is support for the military, military funding and our deployments, not having long deployments anymore. Because [the] majority of us are doing …15-month deployments. So, it’s tough on the soldiers and tough on the soldiers’ families. Those are really my biggest issues.”
No mention of the many soldiers who volunteer for multiple tours and the 76% of the military who voted for President Bush in the 2004 election. The comments are unanimously scornful of Raddock and her producers weak game:
Why does ABC hide the fact that the troops overwhelmingly supported Bush in his election? Why do they pick a few soldiers who support Obama and call that an “endorsement by the US troops”. ABC News is a tool of the Democratic party, so there should be no suprise by the bias of this editorial. You didn’t fool me!
Pum7 2:13 AMI’ll eat my shorts if this isn’t a sham story. I can guarantee you that the military will vote overwhelming for McCain. What a farce…
KOlbermannsux 2:07 AM“.. ABC, which wasn’t so interested in 2004 in reporting overwhelming military support for President Bush over John Kerry, on Monday night aired a story on how soldiers in Iraq are split between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton — with only an afterthought about how “some” prefer John McCain. Relating how “only moments before we talked to them, these troops had been listening to Vice President Cheney give a rousing speech,” but Cheney “didn’t change their political preference,” Raddatz played clips from two soldiers backing Obama and two supporting Clinton. Those endorsing one of the Democrats echoed common campaign themes as Obama’s supporters asserted Obama “has our better interests in mind” and “he represents change” while the Clinton backers declared “that her husband did a good job as President” and “that we should have a gradual draw down,” but Raddatz chose to air just this one soundbite from the McCain supporter with a rather narrow self-interest: “Well, Republicans paid my paycheck this far. Might as well keep it going.” “http://newsbusters.org/taxonomy/term/330
Posted by: Vikezupa 2:04 AMWhy isn’t there an article about how Obamahas lied not only about a couple of incidents, but about his whole career as a “civil rights” lawyer. According to his bosses in the law firm of Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Gallard, Obama was doing the work that any first or second year associatedo. In litigation he was doing basic research and writing memos” He actually only participated in one case of civil rights. Why ABC does not dig a little bit on this?
Posted by: felixdiaz 2:02 AMMy reaction to the story is it is highly liberal oriented as is ABC NEWS. My question for the SOLDIERS who have been sent there is ‘Would they prefer if we drafted and sent all elementary school teachers to take their place and do the soldiering. “Why did they enter the regular military or reserve? So they could get money and benefits or if they wanted to protect their country
Posted by: 131045 2:02 AMI didn’t know all our troops are Democrats, thanks Martha and the crack staff at ABC News. Did ABC need to give more fodder to those who believe the MSM is utterly biased? On a related note, I would love to see Obama deal with Iran. I thought democrats were all for protecting and fomenting Democracy, universal human rights, women’s rights, etc… Do any of the democrats worry about what will happen if we leave before Iraq is stable? Do they care that Iran will mercilessly deprive Iraqis of all the things that democrats supposedly hold dear? The only explanation I can come up with, the only truth that I can see that lies at the heart of the thinking democrat is that they believe that America is the source of all evil, and if we just self destruct, they will be better off. Isn’t that pretty much what Obama’s pastor preaches. I know it is what I heard during my illiberal education.God help freedom and justice if the self-loathers are given the reigns.
Posted by: seville1978 1:56 AMWhy is it “surprising” that we have soldiers who want to come home and soldiers who support Senator Obama? We have centainly had dissenters and disserters within our troops. We have even had (at least) one who murdered his comrades while deployed in protest of the war. This is a fine specimen of political attack masquerading as journalistic reporting.
Posted by: redmund1051 1:51 AMIf you carefully read this article, you can see the crafty twisting of reality. Five soldiers were quoted, yet radditz crafts the story to make it appear that overall, most soldiers support a democrat. She didn’t take into account that the readers are already onto ABC news. She is actually liable-ing all of the soldiers by ‘reporting’ a conclusion based on (statistically) no data.
Posted by: Vikezupa 1:50 AMResponse to SGT Kmart! Well said! I’m an Army wife whose husband is currently in Iraq for the second time in 2 years. You are right about the bonuses still being given..my husband got one a few months ago, too. Also dead on about the Air Force not having recruiting issues…I’d feel alot better if my husband was sitting on an aircraft carrier or at Balad and I got to see him in 6th months instead of 15! Civilians just have no clue! Take care!
Posted by: ArmyWifeUofM 1:50 AMAn ABC poll? Palllleeeeeeeeze! NO COMMENT
Posted by: CM1515 1:48 AMWhat a biased piece. Not a single McCain supporter mentioned? This is bad journalism but what I’d expect from ABC News (or should I say ABC Views — Anything But Conservative Views).
Posted by: 123iread 1:47 AMWhy is it “Surprising” that some soldiers want to come home, and some soldiers support Senator Obama? We have had disserters; we have had one who murdered his comrades while deployed, etc., within our troops. So, how about a headline like “Suprising Tendencies in Troops: Will Kill Comrades to Protest War.” We have a fine specimen of junk journalism right here.
Posted by: redmund1051 1:44 AMThis story would have never appeared if the putrid leftist-liberal Martha Raddatz had only sought out McCain supporters. This is just one of many, many leftist-liberal news reporting media (LLNRM) stories that will promote the leftist-liberal socialist Democratic line before November’s election. Martha Raddatz is no more than a public relations mouthpiece for the Democrats. This is the bias that the LLNRM is infamous for.
