TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY REPOST!
Celebrating our 10th anniversary docweasel.com is posting some of our most popular articles from 10 years ago this month
There isn’t much to say, other than a deep, growling, “FUCK YEAH!”. If you like deathmetal, then this album won’t disappoint. It kicked my ass. It kicked my ass hard. Obscenity will kill you in ‘Cold Blooded Murder’, one of the best releases so far this year.

I love Deathmetal. The blastbeat drumming, the grinding guitars, the growling vocals; it’s an amazing art form. One of the reasons I became a drummer was after hearing Flo Mounier’s work with Cryptopsy. Sometimes I’ll put in some Melodic Deathmetal bands to break it up a bit (not too melodic, mind you), but the genre that I listen to most is certainly pure Deathmetal. So when an album like ‘Cold Blooded Murder’ comes out that’s full of just pure, brutal deathmetal, I immediately cream my pants.
Obscenity’s newest album just doesn’t stop. Existing as a band for over 10 years, these German motherfuckers know their genre well, which definatly shows in their brutal music.
First, the drumming is phenomenal. I was listening to a track like “Caught In Life” and just couldn’t believe it wasn’t a drum machine. “There is no WAY that can be a fucking HUMAN!”, I thought to myself. Insanely pounding his way through every song, Obscenity’s new drummer Marc-Andree Dieken is one sick motherfucker when he gets behind a drumset. The speed this guy has I dream about having in my sleep.
Second, while the drumming is blasting its way deep into your skull, the guitars are shredding with speed, technicality, and melody. The guitar solos are amazing, as evidenced in “My Dark One” and “Sleepwalker”.
Third, the vocalist’s screams and growls are great. Although I like them a bit lower, this is a fine example of what death vocals should sound like, and Oli pulls it off very well. All this talent comes together to perform my favorite track on the CD : “Alien Hand Syndrome”.
This shit rocks hard! The catchy guitar riffs and solos and the flawless drumming and vocals combine to make a great track. “Soulpain” comes in a close second on my favorites list, but being a 9 track CD with only 8 songs (the first track is an intro), ‘Cold Blooded Murder’ ends up being one big favorites list.
Obscenity released quite a few CDs in their existence, but this is the first I’ve heard. I’ll definatly be picking up all their other work I can find. There have been lots of mindless/boring deathmetal albums released, but ‘Cold Blooded Murder’ has an extra touch that brings it up above others.
With an amazing album full of technical songs with just the right touch of melody, Obscenity has quickly become one of my favorite bands, right up next to the technical Canadians, Cryptopsy(which you can hear influenced Obscenity very much).
