I keep seeing Cubs fans cry about the “Cubs Curse” and bemoan the long stretch since the Cubbies have won a World Series.

Sure, the Cubs haven’t won in a championship in a long time, but you have had your 6 Bulls championships in 8 years not long ago, and the Bears had their Superbowl. The Bears’ 36-point margin over the Patriots was a Super Bowl record until Super Bowl XXIV. They even got a hit record out of it!

The last major sport championship in Cleveland was a combined 115 seasons (baseball, football and basketball) ago, in 1964, before there were superbowls (Cleveland is one of the 3 active teams who has never appeared in, much less won, a Superbowl) when the Browns beat the heavily favored Colts. The closest cities in misery (San Diego and Philadelphia) are 30 seasons behind by that measure.

So John Edwards is a very very good looking man, and he knows it and uses it. Is there really anything wrong with that? And why can’t Republicans handle a strong, smart, cute candidate like Edwards? Why does that threaten them? Perhaps this story sheds some light on this subject.

TNR is seizing on one detail in the Beauchamp documents released by Drudge: Beauchamp never does recant the stories. He just says he won’t say anything either way, defending nor denying them. TNR and Foer is using this as justification to further criticize the Military as the bad-guy stone-walling.

They point out there were military personnel in the room with Beauchamp during the phone call, insinuating he was under duress. So the upshot is, we don’t know what Beauchamp’s present stance is on the veracity of the stories. TNR won’t back away from the stories for several reasons that come to mind: they’ve been burnt by the Steven Glass story and others wrecking their credibility, they don’t want another.
