This morning, checking the ol’ stats meter, we were astonished to see over 10k hits from rense.com. Checking out the site, it’s the homepage of radio personality Jeff Rense. Who the hell is Rense, anyway?
Jeff Rense is an American conspiracy theorist and radio talk-show host of the Jeff Rense Program, broadcast on US satellite radio via Genesis Communications Network (GCN) and Internet radio.
Rense’s radio program and website, Rense.com, cover subjects such as UFO reporting, paranormal phenomena, Zionism, tracking of new diseases and possible resultant pandemics, environmental concerns (see chemtrails), animal rights, possible evidence of advanced ancient technology, geopolitical developments and emergent energy technologies, complementary and alternative medicine among other subjects.
What jumps out at you is the Jew-bashing and Bush-bashing, trutherism and UFO idiocy as well as a healthy heaping helping of neo-con bashing and racist caricatures of Condi Wright, but precious little Obama bashing. That’s why it seems odd that the post he linked, Is Obama Losing In Essential Blue Base States?, which he renamed Is Obama Tanking In Key Battleground States? was listed. Plus that fact that it’s sober, non-hysterical analysis, not just wacko craziness, which Rense seems to feature most prominently. Typical Obama listing: Barack Obama Is A Zionist Muslim Communist. A Zionist Muslim? Ok.
Wikipedia (that ever reliable source of half-assed reference) gives Rense the benefit of the doubt, simply stating that he doesn’t filter content and that’s why a lot of wackos post there, because they can get their whack-job views posted on a site that definitely seems to have referral power.
However, you have to submit stories. Ours has been for 8 hours now and it’s not been pushed off by new stories, nor is the front page particularly crowded with stories, which would be the case if everything were ok’ed and nothing filtered. So obviously, gate-keepers are vetting the stories and posting the ones they approve on the frontpage, much like Fark. And the ones they are letting through are, by and large, conspiracy and extremist sites. Which again, makes it odd they linked us, at least on that particular post.
