Hillary the music pirate

by docweasel May 22 2006

When Bush’s Ipod choices were revealed, much was made of the facthe had Beatles tunes on his Ipod, and as all Beatles aficianados know:

Apple Corps label has confirmed plans to digitally remaster the entire catalogue from The Beatles in order to sale them as individual downloads, after the decision was made by the two surviving Beatles – Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney. However, it is not clear at this time when their remastered hits will become available online, let alone which music download stores will carry the songs. While no confirmation has been made about releasing CD remasters, Aspinall had mentioned that the remastered Beatles catalogue will be made available with booklets for each package.

This move by the band is rather unexpected considering how reluctant they have been to enter the music download market and also how long they waited after the original launch of the CD before they released CD versions of their albums. Even though the Beatles have not yet officially released any of its music as downloads, according to the NPD Group research, they are the fifth most popular artist when it comes to music downloaded from file sharing networks.

Gee, then how did Hillary manage to legally do this?

In a New York minute, H-Rod can shuffle from the bad boys of rock ‘n’ roll to the Fab Four in her iPod’s massive musical library. She told The Post her iPod has “got like 1,000? songs stored away in its digital memory — offering a rare window into her private life.

Her hit parade is heavy on the mega-hits from the Rolling Stones, The Eagles and The Beatles. Some of her favorites include The Beatles’ “Hey Jude,” the band’s longest-sitting single atop American charts.

Of course, the MSM story makes no mention of the fact Hey Jude has to be pirated, since all Beatles tunes remain unavailable for download at this time.

Shame shame Hillary.

Sloppy writing by the reporter as well.

“Some of her favorites include The Beatles’ “Hey Jude,” the band’s longest-sitting single atop American charts.”

I count at least 3 things wrong with that sentence. So much for layers of editors.

[UPDATE]: Some have opined that Hillary legally “ripped” her own CDs. Still a pirate, says the RIAA!:

As part of the on-going DMCA rule-making proceedings, the RIAA and other copyright industry associations submitted a filing that included this gem as part of their argument that space-shifting and format-shifting do not count as noninfringing uses, even when you are talking about making copies of your own CDs:

“Nor does the fact that permission to make a copy in particular circumstances is often or even routinely granted, necessarily establish that the copying is a fair use when the copyright owner withholds that authorization. In this regard, the statement attributed to counsel for copyright owners in the MGM v. Grokster case is simply a statement about authorization, not about fair use.”

Not that I agree, but she, as a congressman, is supposed to adhere to the letter of the law.

Something else interesting, when I was researching this post I googled george bush’s ipod illegal

Quite a few results. Of course, doing the same with Hilary bring absolutely zero results. Quelle polarisation!
