While the original story is old news, it is pertinent and valid information about a writer whom the left holds up as one of its shining stars of wisdom and constitutional law. Well-proven and documented turpitude by this scumbag should be easily referenced by anyone who wishes to find out what kind of person Greenwald is.
I’ve posted on the article many times, as have 20+ other members as far as I’ve gone back in the history. 2-3 leftists admins continue to remove the information using the flimsy argument that “consensus” has spoken. The sheer number of dissenters show this is not true.
As shown here, Greenwald has dishonestly operated as numerous sockpuppets. Should this be added? OneGyT/T|C 11:08, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Don’t think it should be added – while that page is funny, it’s (a) from a blog, which probably doesn’t rise to the level necessary given the biography of living persons standards, and (b) doesn’t even actually try to prove the case.JustThatGuy2 11:53, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Sorry about that. The actual evidence was linked to at the bottom of the page I just showed. And I see your point about it being a blog (which also includes this link too), but what about when the person in question is a blogger? Are the standards the same? OneGyT/T|C 17:09, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Already been discussed ad nauseam. If it gets published in a reliable source as required by our biographies of living persons policy, then it can go in the article. Until then, it stays out. —bbatsell ¿? ✍ 17:30, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
OK then. Thank you. OneGyT/T|C 02:50, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
I’d call USNews & World report a reliable source. I’d call Michael Barone a reliable reporter. Personally, I think Townhall is reputable, if conservative source as well, and Hugh Hewitt is indisputably a reporter. Wikipedia has no problem using “reliable” sources like leftist CNN, NYT and other left-leaning MSM.
It appears to be a conspiracy by leftist elements here at Wikipedia who keep this information out, unfairly. These sources ARE reliable and mainstream as well. The information is pertinent and valid. Keeping it out only proves the unfair and pernicious bias of those in power.

Since Wikipedia’s moderator class has been completely taken over by leftists, you can’t post anything even moderately criticizing anything to do with the left, leftwingnut bloggers, the Democrat party or socialism in general.
So, what is needed is an army of righteous righties to set them straight. Wikipedia is the most clicked link on many subjects. Its imperative the truth be told. Go to Wiki, click on Glenn Sockpuppet Greenwald’s article,
copy and paste this into Wikipedia as often as needed:
"Sock-puppet" controversy
In July 2006, Greenwald was accused of praising himself, attacking critics and defending his blog posts by pseudonymously posting comments on several other blogs, a practice known as sockpuppetry.

Sock-puppetry, Michael Barone, US News and World Report, July 26, 2006]
Socky Sockpuppet Glenn Greenwald denied the charge, stating “I have never left a single comment at any other blog using any name other than my own, at least not since I began blogging.” and pointed out that although the comments might have been made from his Internet account, an IP address does not uniquely identify a person.
Critics have pointed out the similarities in style between the sockpuppets and Greenwald, the almost encyclopedic knowledge of Greenwald’s resume, his enemies on the net, his posts, the comments about Greenwald on conservative blogs, and other “coincidences”. Also, in more than one case, Greenwald retroactively posted comments on his site identical to those posted by the pro-Greenwald sockpuppets on other blogs.
He has also used the device of posting as a sockpuppet, who then claims he has received emails from Greenwald defending himself. The sockpuppet then dutifully posts these emails, allowing Greenwald to rebut criticisms without he himself having to post comments. His supposed “supporter” filling that role.
In all these cases, the IP address turns out to be that of Greenwald himself. Unless he is emailing to his Brazilian boyfriend in the next room, it seems highly likely Greenwald is merely playing a charade.

Greenwald’s defense: Musical Chairs?

Our crack research staff at Hot Air World Headquarters has put together the Mother of All Timelines (er, until someone makes a longer one covering more than one day) that shows something very interesting with regard to the allegation that lefty blogger Glenn Greenwald has been a sock puppeteer.
The allegation: Glenn Greenwald has posed as at least five different people on conservative blogs in order to defend himself from criticism and puff up his own image.
The evidence: Blog commentors defending Greenwald on Patterico, Protein Wisdom, Ace of Spades and Riehl World called “Ryan”, “Ellison”, “Sam Mathews”, “Wilson”, and “Thomas Ellers”, all share the same unique IP address (wrong–”Sam” was on an AOL IP–glad we’ve cleared that up–ed), an address owned by none other than Glenn Greenwald. This at least puts all five commentors, who tend to use similar language and writing patterns to defend Greenwald, inside Greenwald’s Brazil domicile. Either we have a South American, internet-obsessed commune centered on an American ex-pat who likes to lecture Americans on how to be patriots, or we have someone–not necessarily Greenwald, yet–assuming several false fronts to defend and praise Greenwald. If it’s Greenwald, we have dishonesty and, let’s be frank here, a bizarre and unhealthy interest in defending oneself from criticism while inflating the appearance of one’s importance and following by conjuring up an army of defenders out of thin air.
The defense: Someone else in the house may have created all those identities to defend Greenwald, but Greenwald insists that he didn’t do it.
The rub: If it’s not Greenwald, then who is it? Do we have one of those bad “the call is coming from upstairs!” situations going on here, or has Greenwald merely removed himself a step from sock puppetry by enlisting someone who lives with him to defend him under assumed identities?
Here’s where the Hot Air crack research staff comes in. Check out this timeline, not yet adjusted for time differences:

As you can see, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, Greenwald and “Ryan” and “Sam Mathews” have all posted to Greenwald’s blog and to Riehl World within minutes of one another. Ace has a shorter timeline from Patterico and his own site, demonstrating pretty much the same thing–Greenwald and a proxy posting within minutes of one another.
Perhaps Greenwald and his fellow Brazil commune denizens were playing a game of musical chairs between Greenwald composing posts on his own blog, the winner getting a few minutes to go online and defend Greenwald from those rapscallions of the right who were so viciously attacking him. Perhaps.
Or perhaps Greenwald really is just a sock puppeteer, inventing names to deflect critics and prop up his own ego.
What say you?
Update: Why do we care about this? Honestly, this is only the second post on Greenwald I’ve ever written, the first being the initial sock puppet post. As a typical lefty, I don’t find him particularly enlightening or interesting, as he’s more content to wage war on Bush than on jihad. Been there, read that. But he’s a blogger whose writings lecture everyone else on civility, honesty and the like, yet it turns out he’s engaging in this dishonest sock puppet devilry. Just like his book on how to be an American patriot turns out to be the work of an ex-pat living in Brazil. Etc. He’s a bit of a gasbag and a hypocrite.
Anywho, we’ve done a bit more digging and come up with this:
7/12/06
“Ellison”“Wilson” left a comment at Protein Wisdom at 7:23 pm. Is that in the Mountain Time Zone? If so, I believe that’s 10:23 pm Brazil time.7/12/06: Greenwald publishes this blog post at 3:56 pm (presumably Brazil time):
then follows up with comments in his own name on the above post at
5 09 pm brazil time
5 27 pm brazil time
5 29 pm brazil time
7 50 pm brazil time
7 54 pm brazil time
9 35 pm brazil time
9 38 pm brazil time
10 44 pm brazil timeSo GG got off his computer after his 9:38 pm post. Then someone else got on and posted as “Ellison” at 10:23 pm. Then that person got off the computer, and GG started posting again at 10:44 pm.
Another round of musical chairs!
Update: We may need to make some adjustments to the timeline based on time zones, and we now have two IPs involved, but frankly GG could have the multiple computer defense on his side anyway. If he has more than one computer attached to a single IP (most people who have broadband and more than one computer in their house get onto the internet through a router, so all of the machines will have the same IP going out) he can claim simultaneous posts on his site and others without playing musical chairs. It’s just multiple writers on multiple computers. It strains credulity, but it’s possible.
But the style argument still holds up no matter how many computers are in GG’s house, and the best explanation of that is at Confederate Yankee.
Update: Alright, we have a revised timeline. Sam Mathews is out since he’s on an AOL IP, and Riehl’s timestamps have been adjusted to Eastern time.
