Tales from the Crypt and the EC comics horror trilogy

At last, the blessed embrace of Slow Death! Great comic, illustrated by the likes of Crumb, Wood and a band of regulars. The downside is the comic was conceived as a eco-nut warning to kids and adults about the horrors mankind was doing to the planet. Yes, all that crap started back in the ’70s and despite the fact that none of the doomsayers predictions comes true they are still at it.

Ok, so Dr. Atomic is up. I don’t know how we ignored this guy for so long, he’s way overdue to our legion of honor. Most of these are slapstick, druggie funnies, nothing too cerebral here but one funny note is the Marijuana Multiplier issue, which was basically how to use an Isomizer, if you were alive in the ’70s you’re aware of these things, they supposedly made poor pot good by going through a god-awful amount of trouble to distill down the intoxicants and leech off the dross, but I don’t think anyone ever made a profit or even gained an inch doing it.

All 8 issues of the sci-fi/fantasy comic Hot Stuf. Posted fairly painlessly, only 8 big (52-60 pages) issues and info, content, artist and synopsis was not hard to find. Great comic, enjoy!

Whew. To start with, there are 31 issues, more than any other series we’ve undertaken. Second, the powers that be determined that info and reviews of the issues should be included. All this resulted in about 2 weeks of intensive work getting these up, so I hope you appreciate it and we hope the stuff stays up.
Rip Off Comics all 30 issues in sliders for easy reading plus reviews, author notes, publishing notes, covers and etc.

Not properly an underground comic in the sense of Rip Off Press or Kitchen Sink Press, but an alternative comic for sure.
The sex-filled antics of “funny animals”, which , ifyou don’t know the term, are animals who wlak and talk and dress and drive and live and love and fuck like people. Omaha the Cat Dancer was always titled with “funny animals” in the description.

Death Rattle, great horror and sci-fi comic, finally all 26 issues up, notated and credited. For some reason, this one took forever, probably because we couldn’t find a good source of info and had to pull contents from one site, credits and dates from another and transcribe all the notes from the inside covers, plus make all the slides.

Just a note, we never did feature this addition, making up for that now.
The complete 24 original issues of Omaha the Cat Dancer, a “funny animal” soap opera with plenty of furry sex going on, by artist Reed Waller and writer Kate Worley, now posted. I’ve had these since the ’80s (some of them) and added to the collection over the ‘net in the ’90s and just getting around to posting them. Also 2 issues of Images of Omaha, which were tributes drawn by many comic artists as a benefit for Keen, the artist for Omaha, who had contracted bowel cancer at the time. Ironically, cancer would claim the writer of the series, Kate Worley, leaving the main story unresolved, but her husband stepped in and edited and added to her notes and I guess they finally did tie up all the loose ends.

We couldn’t resist making Plop the newest addition to our comics collection, with its MAD pedigree of Basil Wolverton covers as well as co-creator Sergio Aragones, the guy who draws the little funnies in the margins of MAD Magazine. But even though it’s a major publisher release (venerable DC Comics, home to Superman and Batman, among other classics) the feel is very underground and the stories are more EC than DC comics, with ghouls, horror, sci-fi and humor.
What’s next? We’d really like to feature the Naylor comics but there are 60 issues and we haven’t figured out how to display them yet. Thumbs suck, stacking them is so ’90s (although that’s what a lot of sites do) and 60 more sliders might be too much of a load. We’ll keep adding smaller series and see if there is any appreciable difference. If not, we’ll bite the bullet and do 60 sliders and 60 pages of Naylor. More likely, Death Rattle, Dr. Atomic or PeepShow might make an appearance next month.
We’re up to 12 comix sections posted so far. The new Cyclone slider, which doesn’t load on pages that don’t have a slider, has been very good about not exceeding bandwidth or slowing down the site. Still, there is probably a finite number of comic book sliders we can host.
